Dr. Chaya Crowder currently teaches Empirical Approaches to Political Science (POLS 2100) where she provides students with the tools necessary to develop their own research questions and conduct empirical data analysis using R. Dr. Crowder regularly teaches Identity Politics. This course provides an introduction to Black, Latino, Asian, and Arab American and white identity politics. This course also explores how the intersection of class, place and religious identities influence political behavior. Taken together, this course offers an understanding of how intersecting identities including gender, sexuality, and class affect the decisions that everyday people make when it comes to politics. She also has led a Learning Community on Social Justice Research (POLS 3998) in partnership with the Center for the Study of LA at LMU.

POLS 5998: Black Politics Seminar

Dr. Crowder teaches a Black Politics seminar where students examine canonical texts in the field of Black politics. During the Spring 2024 semester, 20 of her students presented at the National Conference of Black Political Scientists.

POL 2100: Empirical Approaches to the Study of Political Science

Fall 2020, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, I created pre-recorded lecture videos in order to cut down the amount of time that students spend on zoom.
